Warming temps have caused a lot of vegetative growth in and around the Vernal Pond. This growth has attracted more animal life.

Pond Water Levels
This little vernal pond has been a permanent pond for the past couple years. When the weather eventually becomes drier, this pond will dry up again during late summer and fall.
Water Never Before
Even holes I dug a long time ago filled up with water for the first time. This is the 2nd year in a row with over 50 inches of rain in a year. Last year was a record, and this year beat last year. We average 30 inches of rain a year.
Dry Dam
Some of the ponds I have lack water most of the year. They help stop excess water from the thunderstorm that just passed through here.
Flood waters
The vernal ponds were all full of water from the 3 inch rain event on August 31. The pond worked on in the past post Old Ponds Renewed was at the fullest level of water so far.
Full Vernal Ponds
A lot of rains this year have filled up my vernal pools of water.
Stop Snowmelt
I have been building a lot of vernal pools. They help stop the rush of water so it can slowly absorb into the surrounding soil. This vernal pool is right above a permanent pond.
Stronger, Tougher
Have been working on the vernal pond in the goat pasture again. I made this pond deeper and the dam higher so it can handle the snowmelt.
Leftover Ice
The snowmelt quickly filled the vernal pools that I had created. The water slowly soaked into the surrounding soil and only ice was leftover.
Vernal Ice
When digging vernal ponds, sometimes the dams are built too low in the wrong place. This year I will have to fix that end with more dirt.
