Vernal Pond Spring Rains
The snowmelt and spring rains help replenish the vernal ponds that I have built throughout the woods. This vernal pond seems to hold water better than some of the others.
Brushy Water
This vernal pool has become very brushy. Just outside the edge of the forest is pasture, where it is easier to walk.

My Little Pond Network
I have a multitude of little ponds I built in a forest nearby the house. Today every little hole was filled with water, giving a nice appearance of a network of vernal pools, stepping their way down the valley.
Dry Dam

Flood waters
The vernal ponds were all full of water from the 3 inch rain event on August 31. The pond worked on in the past post Old Ponds Renewed was at the fullest level of water so far.
1.5 Inches in 15 Minutes
An Incredible amount of rain fell in a short period of time. A dry Vernal Pond was filled with water in a hurry. But during the height of the storm, the rush of water went over the dam and damaged it.
Stop Snowmelt
I have been building a lot of vernal pools. They help stop the rush of water so it can slowly absorb into the surrounding soil. This vernal pool is right above a permanent pond.
