Stop Snowmelt
I have been building a lot of vernal pools. They help stop the rush of water so it can slowly absorb into the surrounding soil. This vernal pool is right above a permanent pond.
Icicle Handle
Snow has been melting and dripping down from the roof. This water has created an usual door handle, with icicles hanging from it.
Leftover Ice
The snowmelt quickly filled the vernal pools that I had created. The water slowly soaked into the surrounding soil and only ice was leftover.
Water Stoppage
The dam in the goat pasture has stopped the flow of snowmelt. This vernal pond is nearly full now.
Permaculture Water
I have been busy building a lot of vernal ponds. It is nice to see little water holes in the forest where there was none before.
Vernal Pools Snowmelt
Snow has been melting and filling up my new vernal pools. This stops the water and helps it soak into the ground, rather than having the snowmelt leave the property and be wasted.
Icicle Sun
The Sun has been getting stronger and melting snow. Icicles have been forming when the snowmelt freezes.
February Snow Melt
The snow has been melting this month. The geese are having fun in the melting snow, too.
Snowmelt Vernal Pools
Snowmelt continues to run down our hills into the ponds. For some of my young vernal ponds, that is becoming a very big problem. Some previous spots that I have built vernal ponds have too much flow going through them.
