A few Wingnut(Pterocarya) species have been planted here. Some are cold-hardier than others, while some continue to die back during the winters.

Wingnut Division
I have a young Hupeh Wingnut(Pterocarya Hupehensis) that has multiple trunks on it, so decided to dig out one and make a new tree. With a little care, this Wingnut division should grow into a fast growing tree.
Wingnut Neighbors
These two different species of wingnuts are keeping each other company in the goat pasture. Someday these Wingnuts(Pterocarya) should cross and produce hybrid trees.
Pterocarya Genus
I have been growing some species in the Pterocarya genus. The common name is Wingnut. The Hupeh Wingnut(Pterocarya Hupehensis) is a fast growing tree, but lacks some hardiness in plant hardiness zone 5. The Japanese Wingnut(Pterocarya rhoifolia) has been hardier for me. This selection came from Oikos Tree Crops and is a Korean seed source.
