There are many golden plants available these days. Golden Hops suckers everywhere and grows fast, for good competition with grass below and the Giant Miscanthus it climbs on. Golden Ninebark is a bright-leaved bush and as an added bonus, flowers, too. A good contrast of colored Smoke trees(Cotinus).

Golden Ninebark
The Golden Ninebark(Physocarpus) is flowering now. This is a small bush and I have had to cut branches off of the surrounding bushes that are smothering it.
