Buddleja Alternifolia is cold hardier than the common Butterfly Bush(Buddleja davidii). Where as the latter does not come back after winter, the former keeps coming back each year in my rough climate. Some Butterfly Bush flowers below my Golden Silver Maple.

Gold Watch
There are many golden plants available these days. Golden Hops suckers everywhere and grows fast, for good competition with grass below and the Giant Miscanthus it climbs on. Golden Ninebark is a bright-leaved bush and as an added bonus, flowers, too. A good contrast of colored Smoke trees(Cotinus).
Golden Hoptree
The Golden Hoptree(Ptelea trifoliata ‘Aurea’) has leaves that nearly glow bright like the Sun. This little tree is also commonly called a Wafer Ash.
