Port-A-Hut This month a rusted out Port-A-Hut the goats were using was replaced. We moved this Port-A-Hut, since it was not getting used anymore. It replaced the worn out Port-A-Hut.
Alfalfa Butterflies I noticed hundreds of butterflies in the alfalfa field. I brought one back to the house and found that the common name is Orange Sulphur(Colias eurytheme), but is frequently called the Alfalfa Butterfly, too
Miscanthus sacchariflorus ‘Robustus’ Miscanthus sacchariflorus ‘Robustus’ is a fast growing grass. The grass has running rhizomes and can be used for fast growing erosion control. This Miscanthus can grow taller than me, too.
Dawn Redwood Cuttings I had taken cuttings of Dawn Redwood(Metasequoia) this Spring. I kept them moist throughout the year and did not treat them with rooting hormones, yet most of them rooted and grew.
Bird Berries There are a lot berries that are not edible for me, but birds love. Devil’s Walking Stick(Aralia spinosa) berries and Multiflora Rose(Rosa multiflora) Hips and Pokeweed(Phytolacca americana) berries.
Orange Watermelon Watermelons grew alright this summer, more than some years, less than others. So far orange, yellow, and pink watermelons have been grown here.

Bumper Crop Acorns A Bur Oak tree in the goat pasture has produced a lot of acorns. The goats have enjoyed eating them. Some have fallen over the fence in the corn field, where the goats can not reach them.
