Today I planted a lot of Norway Spruce and Colorado Blue Spruce.
In the future there should be a nice grove of evergreens for the wildlife.
Spring Break
Spring is a busy time of the year.
The snow made me take a break.
Vermont Sun Forsythia
The first flowers to come from a tree or shrub this year was from my Vermont Sun Forsythia(Forsythia mandshurica ‘Vermont Sun’).
Winter Gold
Below is a nice contrast of the usual green branches of the Japanese Pagoda Tree(Styphnolobium japonicum/Sophora japonica) and the Winter Gold cultivar.
Collecting Wood for Grafting
I collected various apple and pear scions for grafting.
Avenarius apple and Turnbull pear are a couple examples of what I will try to graft later this spring.
Winter for a Day
4 inches had fallen overnight.
By tomorrow it should be melted and spring can resume.
I am a Duck

This rooster has been spending time with the ducks, while the other rooster is staking claim over the flock of hens.
March Sunsets
March has stayed cold, not much grass greening up or other colors.
Except for the colorful sunsets this month.
Dry Iowa
Just as last fall was dry, this spring has continued to be dry.
There wasn’t much snowmelt this spring, but some moisture has collected in the bottom of this pond, that was dug deeper back in 2012.
Snow Melted, Remaining White in the Landscape
Japanese White Birches stand out in the winter when there is no snow.
They are attractive trees though can suffer from drought.
