While the Japanese Larches(Larix) are leafing out, the Eastern White Pine has gone the opposite direction.
The winter has been tough on many of my evergreens, such as these Ponderosa Pines in the below photo.
Mantis Egg Invasion
I have been buying mantis egg cases the past few seasons to help with insect pests. The female mantises made a lot of egg cases last fall.
Now that the leaves have fallen off the bamboo, I can see these Asian insects spent some time in this familiar grass.
Zestar! Apple
My Zestar Apple had its first apple last year.
Maybe this year more blooms equals more apples.

Amur Maackia(Maackia amurensis) has been a slow growing tree for me.
But these trees are very attractive when they leaf out in spring.
Carmine Jewel Cherry
I bought a Carmine Jewel Cherry a few years ago and cut it in half and created two bushes.
Last year was the first year they fruited, though the birds ate them all. Hopefully this year the flowers create enough cherries for both the birds and me.
Crimson King Maple Flowering
A little guest has enjoyed the flowers on the Crimson King Maple.
Which is kind of odd to have king in the name for a tree that produces flowers and seed.
Firecracker Crabapple Flowering
My Firecracker Crabapple is flowering for the first time.
The crabapples on this tree suppose to have red flesh.
Elm Seed
I noticed some of my young Prospector Elms have developing seed on them.
This was the first year they starting doing this.
Pitlolly Pines After Winter
Pitch x Loblolly Pines suffered this past winter.
Though some stayed green.

The Staghorn Sumac trees(Rhus typhina) continue to hang onto their fruit clusters into the spring.
