Sunbathing

A snapping turtle and some painted turtles spend time sunbathing in harmony on a log.

As I get closer, they quickly jump in the water and disappear.

Blue Ash(Fraxinus quadrangulata) stems are actually square-shaped.

The Blue Ash is said to have some resistance to Emerald Ash Borer, so I may as well grow some and see.

The Painted Maple(Acer pictum) is a rare maple tree that leafs out gorgeously.

This tree produces good, strong growth.

Evans Cherry is good at suckering and I can dig the suckers up and create more Cherry bushes.

The above photo shows the Lilac and Evans Cherry suckers intermingling.

You always can see where the Black Cherries(Prunus Serotina) are when they are flowering.

Later in summer, the trees have cherries that the wildlife love to eat.

The Tartarian Maple is an attractive small maple tree.

These maple trees will start producing seed while young.

The Accolade Elm is a hybrid of Asian Elms.

This fast growing elm has resistance to Dutch Elm Disease and Elm Yellows.

This Spiraea bush has been here for decades, reliably flowering every year.

This is the first year that I decided to propagate it by cuttings and make more.

The Evans Cherry produced fruit for the first time last year and looks like it will continue that trend.

This shrub is also called the Bali Cherry.

I am mostly looking at everything leafing out and flowering this May.

But looking into the sky can be rewarding, too.
