Variegated Catalpa Versus Speckled Catalpa

A couple of unique Catalpas are growing close together in my nursery.

Variegated Catalpa(Catalpa bignonioides ‘Variegata’) and Speckled Catalpa(Catalpa bignonioides ‘Pulverulentum’) are both listed as Southern Catalpa trees.

Variegated Sycamore Maple

Below is the leaves of the Variegated Sycamore Maple, cultivar Nizetii:

Maple-Variegation

Sycamore Maple(Acer pseudoplatanus) doesn’t seem to do as good here as Norway Maple(Acer platanoides).

Tricolored Beech

There is a beautiful, magical feeling when the Tricolored Beech(Fagus sylvatica ‘Roseo-Marginata’) leafs out in spring.

The color seems unreal, and if I glance back later, the color will be gone and the leaves burnt in the fierce summer.

Orange Poppy

Years ago I found some poppies on an abandoned homestead,  no one left to enjoy the flowers.

I brought the flowers home and was excited to see them flower the next year and every year since with big, beautiful orange flowers.

Willow Cotton

Many willow species have seed that are surrounded by a cottony mass that helps it blow in the wind and float in the water.

Above is a Peachleaf Willow(Salix amygdaloides) loaded with cottony fluff, ready to fly off for a new start.   Female trees of the Salix genus are the cause of this, but if you do not want the mess of this, you can use hybrid willows like the Bigfoot Willow that are male and do not seed.
