I found a small weed in my nursery and it had tiny attractive flowers.

I removed the weed soon after and made room for the planted plants.

Grace Smoketree is one of the many cultivars of the genus Cotinus that does not have green leaves.

This Smoke Bush is a hybrid cross of Asian and American Smoke Bushes.

Lazy Parents

Brown-headed Cowbirds are frequently seen, though their nests are not.

These birds lay their brown-speckled eggs in nests of other birds.

Purple Catalpa Flowering

The Purple Catalpa has flowered the past couple years.

I didn’t get any pods last year, but when I do, I will plant some seed since they come fairly true to seed.

50/50 Chance

There is an American Basswood(Tilia americana) tree close to the fence that strong winds took out.

Glad the wind pushed it the opposite direction of the fence so I didn’t have to fix it.

Male Flowers of the Melon Tree

Che, often called Melon Tree, is a marginally hardy fruit tree in my area. The female died in the harsh winter, but the male had no dieback and has flowered this month.

These trees have been called Cudrania tricuspidata, but now are classified in same genus as Osage Orange and are called Maclura tricuspidata. Nurseries that sell the tree have them grafted on Osage Orange rootstock so that they do not sucker.
