The new Variegated Catalpa graft is putting on good growth this summer.

Catalpas are big-leafed trees, so the variegation is very noticeable on the new leaves.

Cherry Sucker Versus Goji Berry

Goji Berries haven’t done very well in my climate.  These plants grow like they are half vine and shrub, sprawling all over.  The leaves fall off prematurely and the the fruit is usually ate up by the birds.

Now a Carmine Jewel Cherry sucker has grown incredibly close to the Goji Berry, threatening to take up the prime real estate since the Goji hasn’t thrived there.

Daylily Seedlings

There are various Daylilies that grow tall and are a good choice to be propagated on my Oasis.

Lanham’s Purple Sumac

The color on Lanham’s Purple Sumac isn’t a strong purple color.

This is a cultivar of the species Shining Sumac.  This form seems to have leaves that are more dark and dull, giving it a more subtle look in the landscape.

Red Samaras

Redwings Maple looks like it is flowering with its red hot samaras.
