Ripening Strawberries

Strawberries are starting to ripen.

Some of the bunches are quite large.

Blue False Indigo is a tough plant in my climate.

This bush-like perennial is full of flowers.

My Purple Beeches sure are enjoyable to look at this time of the year.

But they have taken forever to grow, as this plant was planted in the late 1990’s.

Milkweed is a common plant that I usually don’t think twice about.

Now with all the talk about Monarch Butterflies, I try to save all the Milkweed plants I come across.

Catalpas have a lot of ornamental features.

This ornamental Catalpa cultivar goes by the name Speckled Catalpa or Variegated Catalpa, as you can see the leaves are pretty interesting.

Colewort plants are starting flower early this year.

These flowers attract a lot of insect pollinators.

Virginia Waterleaf is one of the most common woodland plants in the understory.

At this time of the year the flowers attract a lot of bees.

There used to be a lot of Iris cultivars in this garden.

It has been survival of the fittest, any many have died in the grass. The main survivors are yellow and pink Irises.

The Poppies keep spreading and producing more blossoms each year.

The flowers are big and showy, but each blossom doesn’t last very long.

The Hollywood Plum is considered a purple-leafed plum cultivar and has edible fruit.

This plum is said to be able to start from stem cuttings. So my plant gets bigger, I’ll be trying that propagation method out.
