Slowly I have been planting more trees in former pasture. I make sure to mix some conifers in for wildlife cover.

Hit Again
Last year a young Black Locust trunk was rubbed by a buck, Black Locust Deer Rub. This year the tree was hit again.
Tamarix ramosissima ‘Pink Cascade’
This is the first year that Pink Cascade Salt Cedar has flowered. The insects liked the flowers of this Tamarix.
Overprotective Mother
A turkey was running around trying to get my attention. I found this baby nearby.
Hole in Ground
While checking fence, I noticed a new hole was dug along the fence line. I don’t know what animal dug it, and I wasn’t going to find out.
Hinge Cutting Trees
Hinge cutting trees can offer more wildlife habitat where there was little before. I also did this in the woods and opened up the canopy for more young growth in the woods. I cut this Elm tree down, but let it stay attached to the trunk, good example of a hinge cut.
Sunbathing
A snapping turtle and some painted turtles spend time sunbathing in harmony on a log. As I get closer, they quickly jump in the water and disappear.
Black Cherry Flowering
You always can see where the Black Cherries(Prunus Serotina) are when they are flowering. Later in summer, the trees have cherries that the wildlife love to eat.
Fight to the Death
It has been a long time since I have seen a weasel. This weasel lost a fight with my cat.
Spruce Grove
Today I planted a lot of Norway Spruce and Colorado Blue Spruce. In the future there should be a nice grove of evergreens for the wildlife.
