Someday the Princeton Elm will provide plenty of shade for the goats. This American Elm tree grows fast and should live longer than the native elms.

Asian Tree Leaves
I have planted a lot of different Asian trees on my Oasis. Chinese Catalpa(Catalpa ovata) Golden Rain Tree(Koelreuteria paniculata) Korean Poplar(Populus koreana) Szechuan Poplar(Populus Szechuanica) Chinese Mahogany(Toona sinensis)
Accolade Elm
I’ve had the Accolade Elm for a few years. It is a fast growing hybrid tree that is resistant to Dutch Elm Disease and Elm Yellows. The young stems are very corky and different than the native elms on our place.
Suttner’s London Planetree
There is a variegated form of the London Planetree. So far, Platanus x acerifolia ‘Suttneri’ has grown slow for me.
Goat Elm
There is a large Red Elm(Ulmus rubra) in the goat pasture. It is around 10 feet in circumference. There was another large elm by this elm tree that was taller, but it died from Dutch Elm Disease in the early 1990’s.
Hybrid Chestnut
We have had Hybrid Chestnut trees for awhile. They have produced chestnuts sometimes. The problem is these are lacking complete hardiness in this location. They needed a better microclimate.
Lompary Poplar Youth Relived
The Lombardy Poplar is coming back very fast. It is amazing taking a tree that is a year or two from death and making it new again. Coppicing the aging Lombardy Poplar to the ground has caused it to relive its youth and have incredible, fast growth again.
Brown Bur Oak
Some old Bur Oaks(Quercus macrocarpa) have been dying lately from disease, possibly from Bur Oak Blight. They are making room for young trees to take their place.
Illinois Everbearing Mulberry
The Illinois Everbearing Mulberry has longer fruit than the naturalized White Mulberries here. They are good tasting and are said to be a hybrid between a Red Mulberry(Morus rubra) and White mulberry(Morus alba).
Sturdy and Strong
Encountered a big cottonwood tree on our hike. The poplar tree is 17 feet in circumference and has a large crown.
