Crossing a Silver Maple and Red Maple has never been splashier. This cultivar is known as Shelina’s Beauty.
Category Archives: Trees
Variegated Chinese Elm
Variegated Chinese Elm has good variegation on some leaves and on other leaves not so much.
Iowa Tulip Poplar
Tulip Poplars have had problems getting started on this farm. Cold and droughts have damaged and killed them, though the one above is my biggest tree so far.
Tower Poplar Trunk
The Tower Poplar’s trunk is lighter colored than the native Poplars in the area. These fast growing Hybrid Poplars are good for windbreaks, but are not as easy to propagate from stem cuttings as other Poplars.
Tamarix ramosissima ‘Pink Cascade’
This is the first year that Pink Cascade Salt Cedar has flowered. The insects liked the flowers of this Tamarix.
Tale of Two Rhus
Suckers of Rhus chinensis and Rhus glabra are growing close to each other. Smooth Sumac on the left and Chinese Sumac on the right.
Iowa Palm Fronds
A common tropical-looking species in Iowa.
Other 50 Percent
Referring back to the post 50/50 Chance, this time a Basswood ended up falling on the fence. Better luck next time…
Nature Manmade Colors
Narrowleaf Ash
Narrowleaf Ash was bought before I knew of the Emerald Ash Borer Epidemic. This species has narrow leaflets that give it a different look than the native Ash trees.
