Chinese Sumac is one of my less-hardy Sumacs. The fall color is usually lacking, too. Though this year has been better than usual because of no freeze yet.

Golden Shellbark Hickory
The Shellbark Hickory is dropping nuts and turning color. A lot of the Hickory species have a reliable yellow fall color.
American Hornbeam
American Hornbeam is a small tree with good fall color. The leaves are pretty common looking, but the bark is smooth, so that’s its other ornamental appeal.
Hybrid Paperbark Maple
Paperbark Maple is becoming more popular, as are some of the hybrids. This Gingerbread hybrid has nice red fall foliage.
Fire Sumac
It looks like this Sumac has caught on fire. It is the cultivar Tiger Eyes, which has golden foliage during the growing season, then bursts into flames in fall.
Caucasian Wingnut
The young Caucasian Wingnut trees have appeared to be more hardy than some of the other Wingnuts. They have rewarded me with some yellow fall color.
Gloomy Day’s Bright Spot
The Golden Black Locust is one of the best yellow-leafed tree cultivars. These Golden Locusts keep their bright color throughout the season.
Red Sumac
Lanham’s Purple Sumac has great fall color. As this tree gets bigger, it should create a colony via root suckers.
Sumac Future
Little Staghorn Sumac trees are spreading and adding more wildlife habitat and food source. Birds gobble up the seeds and help plant new trees.
Red Lights
The green leaves on the Amur Maples have disappeared. Amur Maples are commonly planted for their vibrant fall foliage.
