Tree Precipitation
A record amount of precipitation has fallen in the area this year. Trees, like this Green King Hybrid Elm, are all frosted over on this last day of the year. Easy Winter
The month and year is almost over, but I could use a few more of these evenings.
Freezing Rain
Freezing rain glazed over the forest. The sun helped light up the ice in the crowns of the trees.
Frosty Boo
Bamboo and everything else was frosted over from the fog. I have only a little bit of bamboo here and there, most has died from the harsh winters.
Opportunity Knocks

December Water
When heavy rains fall, this temporary pond in the goat pasture fills up. I built this pond with a wheelbarrow and my trusty wolverine spade.
Escape Artist
I will have to build up the dam on this vernal pond. The water is escaping through the goat pasture.
Greenery
I keep planting evergreens throughout the woods. I would have liked my bamboo to live and be one of the important evergreens, but so far only conifers are important here. Owls like the winter habitat I am creating for them.

The Canadian Hemlocks I planted this spring didn’t seem like they would be this close to the water’s edge. Hard to tell where the water line was when eyeballing the dry pond this spring.
