Deutzia is a genus that has a lot of different flowering shrubs. When it gets too cold in the winter, seems like they can have dieback. These flowering shrubs are worth growing though, as the flowers do not go unnoticed.

Iowa Privet
The main Privet I am currently growing is the Amur River North Privet. These shrubs flower when young, though haven’t produced fruit yet.
Iowa Flowering Roses
There are a few different Roses that flower on my Oasis. The most common and aggressive one is the Multiflora Rose. Even though a lot died from RRD(Red Rosette Disease), there are still some lingering around and starting up. Maybe as time goes on, more resistant Multiflora Roses will exist and not die from RRD.
First Fruit of 2016
Honeyberries are always the first fruit to ripen in the year at my Iowa Location. This fruit is quickly turning color and the birds may fly off with it before it is fully ripened.
Lilac Leaf Color
Most Lilacs have green leaves, but there are also some cultivars grown for their colorful leaves. This special selection has intense golden leaves at a certain point in the year.
Charlie’s Golden Autumn Olive
Charlie’s Golden Autumn Olive has been my most vigorous and has had the least die-back of my Autumn Olives. It has a good flower set this year.
Dying Invasive Plants
Autumn Olive is considered invasive in some locations. The cultivars I have planted have been the opposite, barely hanging onto life because of various problems, which I think are winters and cankers.
Red Dragon
Red Dragon Hazelnut has been slow growing so far for me. This is a very interesting plant though, with its reddish leaves and contorted branches.
Spiraea Cuttings
My Spiraea cuttings easily rooted last year and had good growth. This year the small plants are already flowering.
Littleleaf Lilac
This Littleleaf Lilac has become a dependable flowering shrub in spring. Everything on this plant is smaller than the common Old Fashioned Lilac.
