Red Elderberry
Red Elderberry is a new species I have added to the Oasis. I have also tried the Blue Elderberry, which has struggled in my climate. The native Iowa one that grows everywhere is the American Elderberry.
Chinese Prickly Ash
This shrub is closely related to the native Prickly Ash. The different species in the genus have compound leaves and thorny stems.
Salt Cedar Flowers
Salt Cedar attracts a lot of insects to its flowers. This shrubby tree is considered invasive in some west parts of the country, but behaved mostly elsewhere.
Seaberry Fruit
My seedling Seaberries have been ripening their fruit. The fruit is very small, but has an interesting citrus flavor.
Flowering Hibiscus Bushes
This month has been the main time that my Rose of Sharons have been flowering. The winter hardiness is an issue, but overall these are carefree bushes.
Double Flowered Rose of Sharon
There are too many Rose of Sharon cultivars to get, but I have gotten some, to add flowers for late summer. This Rose of Sharon cultivar has many double flowered blooms.
Yellow Fruit
There are many different Viburnum species and cultivars, so there is a lot of variability in the fruit. This fruit is an uncommon yellow color.
Aronia Berries
My Viking and Nero Aronia bushes have been ripening their blue fruit. The berries do not taste good fresh, but the birds are making them disappear.
Magnolia Willow
The Magnolia Leaf Willow has big leaves for a Willow. But this shrub has not proven very hardy in my location.
