Cinco de Mayo
The Staghorn Sumac trees(Rhus typhina) continue to hang onto their fruit clusters into the spring.
Blue Velvet Honeyberry
The Honeyberry looks like it really wants to create fruit. These small bushes have flowers in pairs, so pollination is more likely.
Flowering Russian Almond
My little Russian Almond is flowering this spring. I hope that it produces some nuts this year, because I would like to see how edible this bush is.
Honeyberry Flowering
Honeyberry is an edible fruiting bush that is in the Lonicera genus. This bush is also called Haskap. They are the first ripe fruit of the year and birds take advantage of that.
Nanking Cherry Spring Show
The Nanking Cherries(Prunus tomentosa) are some of the earliest flowering bushes around. They were full of flowers this spring.
Vermont Sun Forsythia
The first flowers to come from a tree or shrub this year was from my Vermont Sun Forsythia(Forsythia mandshurica ‘Vermont Sun’).
Iowa Pomegranate Fruit
My potted Pomegranate actually created a mature Pomegranate fruit. Not too impressed with the taste of my homegrown Pomegranate, but I love the ornamental appeal of this plant.
Red Currant
The red currants are fruiting this month. Not my favorite fruit, maybe I’ll leave them for the birds.
