Asian and North American
My Asian and American species of Sumac are growing in close proximity of each other. The American species, Smooth and Staghorn, have excellent, reddish fall color. The Chinese Sumac is a greenish-yellow.
Filazel Bush
My Filazels are continuing to get larger, as some are starting to bear nuts now. The bushes can color up some during the autumn.
Sumac Pine
While the Smooth Sumac are changing their leaf color, the Pitlolly Pines remain green. Both of these plants are fast growing, but the Pitch x Loblolly Hybrid Pines go vertical, while the Smooth Sumac go horizontal.
Predictable Fall Color
I keep transplanting the root suckers of the Devil’s Walkingstick and spreading them throughout my Oasis. The fall color of these suckering shrubs add early fall color in the landscape and are easily spotted with their purplish foliage.
Aralia Elata
Aralia Elata flowers later than Aralia Spinosa. So there isn’t much of a chance for fruit to ripen.
Invasive Rose Hips
Multiflora Rose has been a part of this farm as long as I can remember. These Rose bushes create a lot of rose hips that the birds eat and spread the seed around. Red Rosette Disease killed a lot of the bushes though.
Bird Fruit
Aralia Spinosa can flower in late summer and by fall have berries for wildlife. The birds will quickly devour the fruit.
Fall Bracts
Not only are the white flowers of the Seven Son Flower attractive. The Pink Bracts that follow add beauty.
Honeyberry Confusion
Honeyberries sometimes get confused and produce a few flowers in autumn. These flowers never ripen into fruit.
