Great Blue Herons usually fly away when they see me. But there is one that hangs around and ignores me while fishing.

Iowa Blue Heron
The easiest way to attract Herons on my Oasis is to make more bodies of water. The Great Blue Herons are on of the largest birds in the area and love fishing in the ponds.
Beaver Tracks
Beavers have been claiming the pond as their territory. I am finding large foot prints everywhere in the mud.
Vernal Pond In July
Vernal Ponds suppose to dry up eventually, but the past couple of years this one hadn’t. Now that this year is drier, this one has completely dried up. It may be possible to even dig it deeper once the mud dries up.
Beaver Food
It has been nearly 20 years since Beavers dominated our farm. The cattle helped keep them away from the pond, but now that the cattle are gone, I have planted many trees along the pond. The Beavers have come back to a paradise, ready to make my Oasis their haven.
Raising Children in Iowa
When walking along the pond, it is common seeing Canadian Geese with their fast-growing children. The Goslings start looking like miniature versions of their parents. Attracting waterfowl is one of the main reasons I like ponds.
Lump on the Log
A common summer sight on the pond: Snapping Turtles are frequently sunbathing on logs. There is also another Turtle that frequents this pond, the Painted Turtles.
Vernal Pool Life
Warming temps have caused a lot of vegetative growth in and around the Vernal Pond. This growth has attracted more animal life.
Oasis Islands
I have a couple islands on my ponds so far on my Oasis. This pond dries up often, so the island disappears at times.
Temporary Deep Water
Some of my vernal pools of water can be pretty deep. This vernal pool can be as deep as 8 feet. Some years it does not dry up.
