Unlike most species in the Juglans genus, the Heartnut keeps green leaves late into fall. These trees haven’t been the hardiest, and only 2 out of 5 remain.

Iowa Pecans
So far none of my Northern Pecans are producing nuts. In the fall, these trees can have color like other Hickories.
Iowa Chestnut Tree
So far, blight hasn’t killed my American Chestnut trees. This is a young one nearing flowering age.
Yellow Bud Hickory
Yellow Bud Hickory also brightens up Autumn, with its yellow leaves. This Hickory Species is recognizable in the fall and winter. First, with its yellow leaves, then the yellow buds on the twigs, and the smooth bark on the trunk and branches.
Spotting Hickories
It is very easy to pick out where the Bitternut Hickories are. Their fall color lightens up the landscape.
Filazel Bush
My Filazels are continuing to get larger, as some are starting to bear nuts now. The bushes can color up some during the autumn.
English Walnut Fading
This English Walnut is getting closer to losing its leaves for winter. None of my English Walnuts have had nuts yet, hopefully they still do this decade, as they never did the last decade.

I have a few English Walnuts growing for over a decade now. These Walnuts have not grown much over the years and still have not produced nuts for me.
American Hybrid Chestnut
My Hybrid Chestnut is flowering a lot, though the other Chestnuts around it aren’t at the same stage of life, so most of the flowers go unpollinated. In the next couple years though, this tree should really ramp up production and provide wildlife a good food source.
