This morning was frigid, with temps below zero. That is typically unusual in March. The cat climbed up high to soak in the solar warmth, while the goats were outside, too, hoping to feel the March Sun.

Clipping Guinea Wings
I have never clipped wing feathers before, but as described in my previous blog called Dumb Youth, my young white guinea fowl want to roost in the trees. This leaves them vulnerable to predators and at this time of the year, also vulnerable to cold. Since I have done this, I haven’t had trouble with […]
Dumb Youth
My young white guineas like to fly up in the windbreak trees, currently have been roosting in the Austrian Pine(Pinus nigra). They were born back in July and are young and stupid, so have slept outside in subzero temps. I have had trouble getting them in the shed at night.
Golden Guernsey Goat
We now have goats that are crossed with the Golden Guernsey breed. Some of our Saanen and Oberhasli goats have been crossed with the Golden Guernsey. This is a buck that was born earlier this year and is polled like his Oberhasli mother. So far he has looked the most like the Golden Guernsey.
Bamboo Ducks
Many new ducks were born this year. They are spending a lot of time in the comfort of the bamboo grove.
Goat Color
Various beautiful goats are hanging out on the farm.

This month a rusted out Port-A-Hut the goats were using was replaced. We moved this Port-A-Hut, since it was not getting used anymore. It replaced the worn out Port-A-Hut.
Bumper Crop Acorns
A Bur Oak tree in the goat pasture has produced a lot of acorns. The goats have enjoyed eating them. Some have fallen over the fence in the corn field, where the goats can not reach them.
Goat Trap
A goat was enjoying some food in the feeder. But then proceeded to push through the opening and get stuck in there. Goats are fun to watch. They loved to run around on recently cut pasture and have been enjoying eating there.
Children of the Roof
A guinea fowl mom was sitting on a nest and had a large number of keets. I caught 25 of the babies because guineas are not good mothers. 2 escaped my capture and I let her raise them. Since it has been very dry this summer, that has helped her two babies survive. They can […]
