Golden Raintree Flowering
Some of my young Golden Raintrees are flowering. They attract insects, like Bumblebees.
Mega Mosquitoes
I am noticing Gallinipper Mosquitos more often now. Today was the first time I was ever bit by one and wasn’t as bad as I had expected.
Iowa Big Moths
There are a lot of moths flying around in the summer months. Sometimes I find bigger ones like this Polyphemus Moth.
Praying Mantis Hatch
I got some Praying Mantis egg cases and put them in jars and wait to release them until they hatch. Today one of the jars was full of newly hatched Praying Mantises. I quickly sprinkled them throughout the landscape, hoping some live to adulthood.
Mantis Hatch
One of my Mantis egg cases hatched in the jar they were in. There were a lot of newborn Praying Mantises, ready to be released onto my Oasis.
Snow Grasshopper
A warm day resulted in grasshoppers trying to wake up enough and jump around on the snow. They better hope the hungry Guineas don’t find them.
Pirates!
Now that the fields are being harvested, an influx of Minute Pirate Bugs have come on my Oasis. They are feeding off nectar.
Jagged Ambush Bugs
Jagged Ambush Bugs are mating while finding pollinating insects to kill. They were wandering around on a Hydrangea bush.
Sap Beetle Invasion
Sap Beetles have been the biggest pest to fruit this year. Hordes of them have been found in fruit.
