Green Ashes aren’t known for their fall color, but they can have a good yellow fall color. These trees are threatened by Emerald Ash Borer that is making its way across Iowa.

Praying Mantis Adult Size
Every year I add Praying Mantis egg cases to help with insect control. In the fall, I may luck out and see one of the adults.
Pink Moth
Most Moths are boring, dull colors. I do come across some that have more vivid colors.
Butterfly Haven
Butterflies have been frequenting the flower garden. Monarchs have been the most common resident on the Mexican Sunflowers.
Monarch Chrysalys
Since I have been attracting Monarchs to the Oasis, seeing a Chrysalys is becoming more common. Too bad it is attached to a vehicle tire.
Flower Attractant
Squash flowers have been having some visitors lately. This flower dwarfs the army of ants on it.
Ant Invasion
A mass of Ants appeared near the door. Not sure what kind of Ants these are, but my shoes won’t care.
Chinese Sumac
Chinese Sumac has only been marginally hardy in my Iowa location. After the main stem died from a bad winter, there have been a lot of suckers popping up.
Meat Eaters
Yellow Jackets have been competing with the cats for their food. There has been a lot more Yellow Jackets this year.
Good Wasps
I like all Wasps, except for when they sting me. This Wasp does not sting though, but lays its eggs in the wood, killing woodboring insects.
