Orange Daylilies are reliable bloomers every year. Even without full sun, these lilies can persist and spread.

Poisonous Beauty
Red Baneberries are considered poisonous, but the bright fruit may be eaten by wildlife. I always notice the plants, as the fruit isn’t eaten very fast. There aren’t many of these perennials in the woods.
American Hybrid Chestnut
My Hybrid Chestnut is flowering a lot, though the other Chestnuts around it aren’t at the same stage of life, so most of the flowers go unpollinated. In the next couple years though, this tree should really ramp up production and provide wildlife a good food source.
Japanese Butterbur Leaves
Japanese Butterbur has not been invasive in my location, as it can be in other places of the country. The huge leaves add a lot to the landscape, though some years it seems to struggle, even though it has unlimited water.
Variegated Catalpa Flowering
This is the first year my Variegated Catalpa has flowered. By this time of the year, the variegation has pretty much faded away.
Chinese Catalpa Flowering
Chinese Catalpa flowers a lot earlier in life than its cousin, the Northern Catalpa. The flowers are smaller, but they are produced reliably and in great production. The fruit soon develops soon after, with many thin, long ‘bean’ pods.
Lily Patch
Lilies are pretty reliable flowers in the summer months. With the burst of energy from their bulbs, they can rise up and compete pretty well with the surrounding landscape.
Brome Competition
Brome grass has been one of the most aggressive grasses on the farm. Any plant that isn’t tall or vigorous enough will quickly succumb to its strength. There are some Ornamental Grasses though, that I have found out to compete well against the Bromegrass.
Gooseneck Loosestrife
In the beginning I never thought this perennial plant would amount to much. This Loosestrife is short, but has found a way to spread and exclude the aggressive, taller bromegrass. It is most noticeable with the white flowers in mass.
Giant Fleeceflower Spreading
Giant Fleeceflower is generally well-behaving, but the clump continues to spread. The flowers are the most important feature of this perennial, lasting what seems like an eternity.
