Red Baneberries are considered poisonous, but the bright fruit may be eaten by wildlife. I always notice the plants, as the fruit isn’t eaten very fast. There aren’t many of these perennials in the woods.

Raising Children in Iowa
When walking along the pond, it is common seeing Canadian Geese with their fast-growing children. The Goslings start looking like miniature versions of their parents. Attracting waterfowl is one of the main reasons I like ponds.
Eurasian Collared Dove
The Eurasian Collared Dove has become a common bird in Iowa towns in the past decade. I am starting to see them appear more often on the farm.

Takeoff
I saw that a turkey made prints in the snow with its feet and also the wing feathers. Looks like the turkey took flight to the sky.
Deserted Rookery
These abandoned nests of a flock of Great Blue Herons awaits their return this spring. It is fun to hear the squawking chicks in the nests during the summer.
