I Caught It
What is this unusual creature I am holding? It is actually a bamboo rhizome I dug up and will transplant.
Heavy Snow
Some wet, heavy snow has come in time to make a White Christmas. Bamboo is weighed down with the snow. Evergreen Windbreak with a nice Christmas look. Unique Snowball formed on steel fence post.
December Green Bamboo
Bamboo is still green into December. Animals like hiding in the bamboo. The best kind to grow in my climate is hardy species from the Phyllostachys genus.
Fall Colors 2012
Nice fall yellow color on a White Mulberry, while others are still green. Bald Cypress rarely fails me and has good fall colors most years. Bitternut Hickories(Carya cordiformis) turning usual yellows in fall. Pin Oak(Quercus palustris) hangs onto its leaves into the winter. Red Oak’s fall color and the still green bamboo(Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘spectabilis’) contrast […]
Bamboo Snowed Under
Bamboo quickly bends under the weight of winter precipitation. Once the snow starts melting, it quickly becomes upright again.
Bamboo Guineas
The Guinea Fowl like sitting around in front of the bamboo and soaking up the Sun. This bamboo is a running Phyllostachys and is nicknamed Spectacular Bamboo.
Bamboo Lava
Cut down some bamboo culms that were about dead. Later I saw them looking like mini volcanoes with lava.
Tan Bamboo
Bamboo is not evergreen in my climate. It is different from evergreen trees and deciduous trees, holding onto tan leaves into Spring.
Phyllostachys Frost
The bamboo had a lot of frost on them. This plant is Phyllostachys viridis.
