My Bamboo experiences have been mentioned a lot in my previous entries. I still have a few species still alive. This Bamboo species, Phyllostachys Parvifolia, is one of the hardier bamboo species. In my climate, it also dies to the the ground usually, even though it is on the south side of the house.

Frosty Boo
Bamboo and everything else was frosted over from the fog. I have only a little bit of bamboo here and there, most has died from the harsh winters.
Iced Landscape
Some freezing rain has iced over everything on my Oasis.
Bamboo Remnants
Bamboo met its match last winter, what came back was few and far between. This area was full of bamboo the previous year, but most of the root system had been killed off.
Bamboo Skeletons
Bamboo was interesting for the past decade, but this winter proved even worse than the others that would routinely topkill the groves. Most of my species were of the Phyllostachys genus, but now are just dull skeletons, waiting to be cut down and replanted with something else.
Spring Break
Spring is a busy time of the year. The snow made me take a break.
I am a Duck
Can you spot the one that does not belong? This rooster has been spending time with the ducks, while the other rooster is staking claim over the flock of hens.
Evergreens Winter Burn
Cryptomeria japonica, or better known as Japanese Cedar, is probably only marginally hardy here. It turns a drab color in winter like the native, unrelated Red Cedars. This young tree looks burnt and I don’t know how this tree and the other couple I still have alive will turn out this Spring. All my bamboo […]
Freeze Dried
The coldest so far has been -16 degrees Fahrenheit this winter. All the bamboo have begun to change from their lively green to sage green and lastly will change to a tan color. Most likely the top growth will be dead and the bamboo will have to come back from the ground in the spring. […]
Bamboo Ducks
Many new ducks were born this year. They are spending a lot of time in the comfort of the bamboo grove.
