A mass of Ants appeared near the door. Not sure what kind of Ants these are, but my shoes won’t care.

Common Reed
Common Reed has running rhizomes and is found in odd places. These shoots are coming up between the trunk and bark of an old, cut-down Lombardy Poplar.
Hydrangea Flowers
Hydrangea bushes can have large flower bunches. There are a lot of beautiful species and cultivars.
Variegated Red Clover
Every once and awhile I come across variegated plants. This Red Clover has nice variegation.
Last Mulberry of the Year
The Illinois Everbearing Mulberry had a productive year this year and lived up to its name. The tree had fruit starting to ripen in June and the last mulberry is getting close to ripe now.
Chinese Sumac
Chinese Sumac has only been marginally hardy in my Iowa location. After the main stem died from a bad winter, there have been a lot of suckers popping up.
Iowa English Walnut
I have a few English Walnuts growing for over a decade now. These Walnuts have not grown much over the years and still have not produced nuts for me.
Chinese Catalpa Bean Pods
Catalpas are commonly called Bean Trees because of their pods. The Chinese Catalpa has thinner pods than the native Catalpas.
Seven Son Flower
Seven Son Flower is a beautiful, large bush I can grow in Iowa. This is one of my latest flowering shrubs and attracts a lot of insect pollinators, like butterflies and bees.
Ripening Seaberries
Seabuckthorn is a shrubby, thorny tree, that suckers a lot. The ripening berries are orange and have a lot of flavor.
