Golden Guernsey Goat
The Golden Guernsey Buck is looking great this summer. He is not 100% Golden Guernsey, but has the look of one.
Live or Die
A Great Horned Owl has been hanging around and I am starting to see what it is capable of when hunting for its hungry babies. I am having to get the ducks earlier in at night to save them.
Twins
A couple young Owl Fledglings have been hanging around lately. Once it is evening, they start begging their Great Horned Owl mom for food with their voices, one after another, competing for what their mom kills.
Poisonous Beauty
Red Baneberries are considered poisonous, but the bright fruit may be eaten by wildlife. I always notice the plants, as the fruit isn’t eaten very fast. There aren’t many of these perennials in the woods.
Adaptable-Tree-Frog
Tree Frogs are pretty adaptable and not only use nature, but unnatural things for their good. It is common to see these frogs on fence post insulators.
Summer Cloud Shapes
Being outside a lot of the time in the summer, I am frequently noticing the ever-changing sky. Some clouds give inspiration to the mind.
Iowan Golden Maple
There are some good cultivars of the common, native Silver Maple. The Golden Silver Maple has bright new foliage. As with most trees that have golden leaves, the new foliage is the brightest.
Painted Maple New Growth
Painted Maple trees have been two-toned with their new and old leaf color. These trees seem pretty hardy and adaptable, so I have been planting more.
Bindweed Forage
Bindweed has been spreading in the gardens and also in the pastures. In the pastures it is not a problem as the goats eat it.
