Chokecherries Fruiting
Chokecherry fruit doesn’t interest my tastebuds, but the wildlife may find it worthwhile. Besides the ornamental appeal of the fruit, the primary ornamental aspect of Chokecherry bushes are when they are full of white flowers in spring.
What Catalpas
I am growing a few different Catalpas. Purple Catalpa is a fast growing Hybrid Catalpa tree. This Catalpa tree has new leaves that are colored purple, but as they age, the leaves do turn green. Chinese Catalpa flowers at an early age and also reliably flowers each year.
Daycare
A large Black Cherry(Prunus serotina) rises up above the young Black Locust grove. Black Locusts are a good pioneer species and help other tree species get established in their light shade and feed them through their nitrogen fixing capabilities.
Cloud Towers
The thunderclouds in the distance are rising up.
Chinese White Poplar
The Chinese White Poplar(Populus tomentosa) is closely related to the common White Poplar(Populus alba). I wouldn’t be surprised if it suckers someday.
Black Locust Summer Flowers
The Black Locust(Robinia) trees had flowered earlier this year, though there has been a few sparse flowers appearing lately.
Chicory Pasture
A good patch of Chicory is growing in a pasture. The flowers are opened up in the morning and quickly create a blue cast over the pasture.

Bamboo was interesting for the past decade, but this winter proved even worse than the others that would routinely topkill the groves. Most of my species were of the Phyllostachys genus, but now are just dull skeletons, waiting to be cut down and replanted with something else.
Autumn Beauty Jujube
Out of 5 or so grafted Jujubes I have gotten, Autumn Beauty Jujube is the only one that hasn’t died below the graft. The tree is getting a little bigger now, so hopefully it can grow into maturity, and not end up as a Jujube(Ziziphus jujuba) rootstock. The tree is growing straight and narrow. This […]
