I’ve been planting some Crabapples that were grown from seed. They flower at an early age and produce small fruit for birds.

Sometimes an Island, Sometimes Not
There is enough water in this pond currently so that the island is completely surrounded by water. Though with little watershed, the water disappears eventually. I may remove the island in the future and dig this pond deeper.

The Korean Giant Pear looks like it will have fruit this year. This Asian pear tree took many years to start flowering, but appears to be maturing.

The Nanking Cherry bushes are a great ornamental that provides reliable fruiting most years. . The seeds tend to germinate very easy, as can be seen from the above photo.
Balaton Cherry Flower Display
The Balaton Cherry has been rewarding me with flowers in the spring and cherries in the summer. The fruit has attractive flesh that is dark red.
Excited For Pears
The old pear tree is loaded with pear blossoms. This can result in a big harvest of pear fruit later in the fall.

The Carmine Jewel Cherry Bush is growing larger than I thought it would. It is pretty reliable for large quantities of flowers.
Bella di Giugno Pear
I grafted Bella di Giugno Pear onto an old rootstock pear. It has started to flower more, hopefully soon it can set pears. Until then, I can keep wondering if this is the earliest pear that I can harvest in Iowa.
Japanese White Birch Catkins
The male catkins on the Japanese White Birch trees are opening up this month. They don’t last very long until they fall to the ground and some of the goats may eat up the spent catkins.
