The Pineapple Lily(Eucomis) is an interesting flowering plant from Africa. It has to be dug in the winter in this climate or will die. So it is stored in the basement.

The Milk Thistle(Silybum marianum) is an annual and has started flowering from seed planted this spring. It has attractive leaves to go with the purple flowers. Some parts of the plant is used for medicinal uses.
Iowa Banana
Growing Musa basjoo hasn’t been some amazing experience for me. Seems like it is taking off slow in my weather. Will dig up this fall and store it the basement and replant next spring. Possibly can be overwintered outside in my climate, with a lot of protection.

Knee High By the Fourth of July
I am growing some Bloody Butcher Corn this year. As you can see, it is more than knee high by this Fourth of July.
Zinnias
Zinnias and other annual flowers are busy blooming. I think the goats would like to munch on this floral display.
Barn Swallows
Our barns attract barn swallows to come back every spring and produce offspring. This nest is starting to get a little crowded. Soon the babies will be flying.
Backyard Island
I was busy mulching branches this year and ended up creating a mulch island in the backyard. The ducks like climbing up on the island and looking for bugs in the mulch.
