I built a vernal pond in an area that has too much watershed. The accumulated snow over the winter started melting fast with the warm temperatures. This influx of water quickly devoured this vernal pond: This watershed is too big for a vernal pond. It needs a larger, permanent pond in this area.

Black Cat Superstition
A black cat has started coming around for the goat milk we have around. I’m suspicious of his other motives.
Iced Island
Gypsy and I could walk on the ice, it is very thick and doesn’t give. Went to check out our island. It needs some cover on it before it erodes away.
Plowing Grassland
From the looks of it, we are plowing up our pasture. It really is just a lot of manure being spread on the pasture to help fertilize it.
Woolly Bear
I’ve always love these woolly bear caterpillars. I like touching them and seeing them curl up in a ball. Found a lot of them lately. Wish they were bigger, could use them for a pillow.
Finally Islandized
Rain was hard to come by earlier this year but enough rains have fallen so that the streams started running again. My island is finally an island with water around it!

I found a Praying Mantis crawling on a gate when doing goat chores. I introduced the Chinese Mantis to my Chinese bamboo.
Iowa Kiwano
I have been growing a melon called the horned melon or Kiwano. It takes a lot of days to mature, so only one was able to turn orange this year.

Niagara Grape
Niagara is always producing good crops of grapes. It has seeds though, so not the best for eating fresh. I did make grape juice out of them though.
