Covered In Ice
Freezing Rain can happen in the winter and can damage a lot when glazing everything with ice. The Green Ash tree(Fraxinus) split from the weight of the ice and hit the chicken shed. Snow Adds Up
With cold temperatures and little snow melting, more snow storms keeps adding to the snowpack. Ponderosa Pines(Pinus ponderosa) are getting buried under the snowdrifts that are forming.
Bamboo Snow
The green leaves of bamboo mix good with the early snowfall.
Iowa Skink
Interesting things can be found when digging in Autumn. This skink was found in the dirt and was trying to hibernate before it was disturbed.
Local Beaver Gang
There are Beavers in the area, though I shall keep them off my place. They can do a lot of damage to trees. Large Cottonwood trees nearly girdled to death. The beavers built a lodge to live in. A dam built with some tree branches and corn stalks.
Amur Honeysuckle
Amur Honeysuckle(Lonicera maackii) fruit hangs on late for birds.
2009 Fall Colors
Norway Spruce, Ponderosa Pine, and White Oak are lined up. Red Oaks are easily spotted in the naked forest.
Tobacco Tree
Tobacco Tree(Nicotiana glauca) is a tall growing plant in the Nicotiana genus. The plant will die when we get freezing temperatures.
